Hospital staff received animals, maintained the stables, assisted treatment and prepared patients for further movement. Walry’s civilian trade was saddler; his precise hospital duties have not been established.
Brief history
Library and Archives Canada lists a Shorncliffe hospital diary from 6 April 1917 to 31 January 1918, RG 9 III-D-3, volume 5044. Its guide also mentions a No. 2 hospital in earlier section histories; the number’s earlier use still needs reconciliation.
Historical material
Hales’s original attestation and complete digitised service file are linked from his biography. Walry’s commemorative record and alias evidence distinguish Walry from the spelling Walrie under service number 490.
