Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Francis Shore MRCVS was born in St. Boswells Roxburgh, Scotland, on October 4, 1869. Educated locally, he was accepted into the New Veterinary College, Edinburgh, where he won the prize for Practical Chemistry in 1885.
He joined the army on 25 July 1894 as a veterinarian and was posted to India. His main posting was to the Army Remount Depot in Saharanpur. There, he steadily progressed to Major, becoming a Senior Veterinary surgeon and a Procurement Officer, travelling to Argentina and Australia to buy horses.
He died on 6 December 1916 and was buried in the “Old European Graveyard” by St Thomas’s Church in Saharanpur.
Lieutenant-Colonel Shore’s death was reported in The Veterinary Record dated 26 May 1917.
