British Army Veterinary Corps
Walter Alfred SINGLETON
Private
Died 23 September 1915 · Aged 50
Family-name discrepancy: This entry follows the CWGC Helles Memorial register, which names Singleton’s wife as Annie Margaret. The inherited 1911 census research field says Annie Baker. That census identification has not been verified against the original household and marriage records; Baker is not assumed to be a maiden name.

His story
Walter Alfred Singleton worked as a baker in Great Bolton, Lancashire.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission family particulars record: “Son of Thomas and Nancy Singleton, of Bradshawgate, Bolton; husband of Annie Margaret Singleton, of 68, Hilden St., Bolton.”
The original Helles Memorial register names his wife Annie Margaret Singleton. The same parental names appear in a published transcription of their daughter Jessie’s 1889 baptism at St Peter, Great Bolton.
He served as an Army Veterinary Corps private with 16th Vet. Section. His medal record gives 14 March 1915 as the date of his first qualifying service in Egypt.
He died on 23 September 1915, aged 50. He is commemorated at Helles Memorial.
