British Army Veterinary Corps
John MILLER
Private
Died 30 October 1918 · Age uncertain
Age discrepancy: Scone Remembers gives a birth date of 13 November 1862 and death on 30 October 1918, which would make Miller 55. Its narrative instead describes him as 56. We have not independently checked the birth record or resolved this difference.
Scone Remembers — John Miller

His story
John Miller was the eldest son of Andrew and Agnes Miller, from Rashiehall, St Martins. The Scone Remembers account describes his father as a ploughman and records that John had joined the Army by 1881. It reports earlier service in Egypt and marriage to Agnes Taylor; they had seven children by 1914.
The same account dates his AVC enlistment to 5 May 1915 and describes two years in Salonika before malaria led to his discharge. He returned to Perth Road, Scone, where he died on 30 October 1918. He is buried in Scone Cemetery.
