His story
John Moss was a Toronto manager living at 16 Radford Avenue, the address also given for his mother Margaret. His Military Service Act form describes him as single, records birth at Toronto on 27 March 1887, and notes five years with the 48th Highlanders. His call-up was dated 1 August 1918. The form does not expand the middle initial used in commemorative records.
He died on 12 October 1918 and was buried at Prospect Cemetery, Toronto. Veterans Affairs Canada names his parents as Walter Wellesley and Margaret Moss. Commemorative records differ in their unit descriptions: some associate him with the Canadian Army Veterinary Corps, while Veterans Affairs Canada lists Canadian Infantry, Remount Squadron.
