His story
Michael Carmichael worked as a grocer in Falkirk before joining the Army Veterinary Corps, according to a contemporary newspaper notice supplied to this memorial. The notice names his father as Lewis Carmichael, of 10 Leven Street, Bainsford, Falkirk. The existing commemorative record names his mother as Annie Carmichael at the same address.
The newspaper reports that he joined in August 1914 and had served in Egypt since June 1915. He was a sergeant in the Army Veterinary Corps; the research record lists an attachment to 261st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
The newspaper also names his brother, Gunner Lewis Carmichael, as serving with R.G. Artillery at Salonica.
