Biography

Captain Warren Stanley Thompson was born in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada, on 14 June 1874. He graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1906.

In 1901, the Canadian Census listed Warren Thompson as a farmer in Manitoba, but the 1911 Census lists him as a Veterinarian Surgeon in Saskatchewan.

Warren Thomson enlisted in the Army Veterinary Corps on 26 January 1915, and he was appointed to the newly formed number 3 Veterinary Hospital in Bologna, France, on 12 February 1915. Captain Thompson was to stay with that hospital until the war’s end.

The Number 3 Hospital was closed on 15 July 1919, and soon after, on 2 September 1919, Captain Thompson was to die at the Cambridge Hospital Aldershot, England. His cause of death was infective Endocarditis (an inflammation of the heart’s inner lining). His death was attributed to his active service during the war.

Captain Thompson’s body was returned to Canada for burial, and he was buried in Deloraine Cemetery, Manitoba, Canada.
