Biography

Captain Thomas Francis Donworth was serving with the 109th Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery in France when he accidentally drowned in the river Somme on 25 July 1916.

According to witnesses, Captain Dunworth was with fellow officers when he appeared to get into difficulties and disappeared below the water’s surface. His fellow officers tried to rescue him but could not locate him in the water.

Despite an extensive search, Dunworths’s body was not able to be found. He is buried in Terlinchun British Cemetery Wimille. The entry in the war grave register is handwritten.
