Biography

Lieutenant Hugh McCartney MRCVS was the son of John and Ann McCartney and the husband of Rose Crilly McCartney of Neilston near Glasgow. He qualified from the Glasgow Veterinary College in December 1894.

He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army Veterinary Corps on the 15th of July 1915, and he died of morphine poisoning at Aitkenhead Farm Military Hospital near Blairgowrie in Perthshire on the 4th of November of that year.

He was 43 years old and is buried in Neilston Cemetery. His grave is marked with a standard Commonwealth War Grave Headstone, which shows him as a Lieutenant in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.
