Biography
Lieutenant Francis Hubert Doyle MRCVS obtained his degree at the Royal Veterinary College, Ballsbridge, Dublin Army Veterinary Corps, in July 1916. While at university, he won the V.M.A. gold medal for gaining first place in the final professional examination. Lieut. Doyle had previously distinguished himself as an Intermediate exhibitioner at Blackrock College.
Lieutenant Doyle obtained a commission in the A.V.C. in August. And as sent to Egypt.
The Veterinary Record reported that less than three months after arriving in Egypt, Lieutenant Doyle was kicked by a mule he was transporting, and this injury resulted in his death.
However, his army record shows that Lieutenant Doyle died because of a fractured skull he received when he fell from a horse.
He died in the 14th Australian General Hospital on 12 October 1916 because of injuries he sustained. He was buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery.
Lieutenant Doyle’s obituary notice appeared in the Veterinary Records on 9 December 1916. Doyle is also remembered in South Dublin Libraries, Our Heroes Database.
