Biography
Captain Elijah Marsh Dixon MRCVS was born on 12 July 1870 in Newton Heath, Manchester, England. He graduated MRCVS on 20 May 1892 from the Royal College of London.
Elijah served in the Boer War in South Africa before migrating to Canada.
Elijah enlisted at Camp Valcartier, Valcartier, Quebec, on the 9th of September 1914.
He was sent to France on 8th February 1915. He first served with the 1st Canadian Artillery Brigade and then the Canadian Veterinary Hospital at Havre. At the time of his death, he was attached to the 2nd Canadian Veterinary Section.
Captain Marsh died while speaking to other patients on the deck of the Ambulance Transport Ville de Liege at about 11.45 on the morning of September 27th, 1918. He collapsed, and although the deck Medical Officer was immediately called, he expired very shortly from heart failure.
He is buried in Les Baraques Military Cemetery, France.
Captain Dixon’s death was reported in the Veterinary Journal,dated October 1918.
