Biography
Brigadier General Edwin Hills Hazelton FRCVS was born in Southampton, Hampshire, on 16 December 1861. He graduated from the Royal College in London in March 1883.
Hazelton played three games of first-grade cricket for Hampshire (he scored 50 in his first game). However, his cricket career was short-lived as he joined the Veterinary Service in 1883. Hazelton saw active service in China in 1900, where he was mentioned in Dispatches.
Hazelton was promoted to Major in 1902, Lieutenant Colonel in 1902, and Colonel in 1907.
He was to reach the position of Principal Veterinary Officer in India before he died in India on 25 July 1916.
Hazeltons obituary in The Veterinary Record, dated September 9, 1916, states:
“He was a popular and esteemed officer, and his loss will be keenly felt by all who were associated with him in his long and successful career.”
