Biography
Captain Denham Robert Chatterley MRCVS was born in St. Pancras, London, on March 6, 1880.
He qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in July 1908. He held a commission in the Army Veterinary Corps, but in 1910, he was seconded to the Colonial Veterinary Service and was posted to Umtali in Southern Rhodesia. He served in Rhodesia for four years but stood down from his position on the expiry of his agreement and on account of ill health. He died suddenly on the 6 September 1914 while travelling to Cape Town and is buried at De Aar in the Cape of Good Hope.
Captain Denham Robert Chatterley does not have a Commonwealth War Grave, but he is commemorated on the RCVS Honour Board.
Chatterley’s obituary is recorded in The Veterinary Record for December 5 1914.
