Captain Charles Henry Lambert MRCVS was born on 20 July 1882, the eldest son of John Henry Lambert of Redmount, Ballinasloe, Galway. He graduated from the Royal College in Dublin in 1908 and worked for Mr. H. S. Persse, the well-known trainer at Chattis Hill, Stockbridge, Hampshire, for several years.
He joined the army in May 1915 and was attached to 58 Bde RFA on 29 Jun 1915 while they were training at Witley Camp to be the brigade’s veterinary officer. On 1 June 1915, he sailed with them from Devonport on SS “Knight Templar”, arriving in Alexandria on 14 Jul 1915. On 26 Jul 15, while still in Alexandria, he was taken ill and taken the next day to No.17 General Hospital. Charles Lambert died in 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, on 17 Aug 1915 from a gastric ulcer perforation.
