Biography
Captain Bernard Routh Poole was born on 23 September 1869 in Peshawar, India. The 1891 Canadian Census shows him living in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and by 1911, he was living in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Bernard Poole joined the Canadian Army Veterinary Corps on January 5, 1915, and was attached to the 5th Railway troops. The Railway troops were involved in the construction and maintenance of railways of all gauges within easy reach of the Front Line.
Captain Poole was killed in action on 3 May 1917 when the billets of the 5th Railway Troops were shelled near Arras.
Captain Poole is buried in Faubourg-d’Amiens Cemetery in Arras, France.
