Biography
Captain Archibald Wright Campbell was the son of Archibald Campbell, MRCVS of Wishaw, Lanarkshire. He had a distinguished college career and qualified from Glasgow Veterinary College in June 1916 with seven medals and nine first-class certificates.
He immediately joined the Army Veterinary Corps, and after six months of training at Aldershot, he sailed to Egypt, where he took command of a Mobile Veterinary Section and was sent with his Section to the Salonica front. He was promoted to Captain in January 1917. He served in Salonica until July 1917 when, at his own request, he was sent with the mobile section to Palestine, which was attached to the Mounted Brigade.
He sustained a gunshot wound in the head in action on 28th November 1917 and died in hospital on 13th December. He was 22 years old and is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
Captain Campbell’s obituary appeared in the Veterinary Record and the Veterinary Journal.
